It’s the Simple Things…an Ode to Cards
In “It’s the Simple Things…an Ode to Cards,” parenting coach Alice Hanscam reflects on the benefits of playing with cards. As Hanscam explains, card games offer screen-free, sensory-rich, shared experiences for families; while playing cards, children practice such skills as negotiation, turn-talking, and problem solving, and they build connections through relationship-based play. In addition to describing some of the advantages of card play (particularly as compared with electronic device play), Hanscam suggests a variety of different ways children of all ages can play with cards.
Alice Hanscam is an author, PCI Certified Parent Coach, and ScreamFree Certified Leader. She owns Denali Parent Coaching LLC.
