In the past decade+, screens have come to dominate the school day in many (if not most) schools around the country. While there are some use cases for tech in education, individual devices and access to the internet create an environment rife with distraction, anxiety, gateways to online harms, and displacement of time to develop critical skills - including social skills. Many parents and teachers feel unsure where to start in bringing their concerns about screens in schools to administrators/school boards/other decision-makers. The Screens & Learning Action Kit was created to support them with facts and action ideas on a wide range of topics related to technology and schools, including:

  • Foundations for Learning
  • Screen Time’s Impact on Learning
  • EdTech Fact vs. Fiction
  • 1:1 Programs (K-5)
  • Screens, Schools and Equity
  • Benefits of Pencil and Paper
  • Play to Learn
  • Student Data Privacy
  • What AI Can and Cannot Do
  • Social Media Use by Schools
  • Opting Out of EdTech
  • Phone-Free Schools
  • Organizing Parents on a School Level
