Letter Template Asking Schools to Stop Communicating with Instagram
This letter is a template for parents and caregivers who wish to ask their children's schools to stop using Instagram/social media to communicate critical information to students about social, athletic and other activities on these platforms. This letter can be adapted for youth sports associations, churches, etc as well. It was written by Screens in Schools Co-Chair, Lisa Cline, who has graciously shared it with the Action Network.
While schools cannot prevent students from using Instagram/social media on their own time, they do have control over how they communicate with students. Using Instagram to communicate with students normalizes and forces the use of a platform which can be harmful to students, particularly those at risk for anxiety, depression, eating disorders and self-harm.
